About the role
The Norwegian Red Cross is seeking an experienced general trauma surgeon to join its Global Surge Team. The role involves rapid deployment to complex emergencies, supporting health‑related projects within ICRC/IFRC operations.
Key responsibilities
- Provide advanced trauma surgery and emergency medical care in field settings.
- Lead and supervise local medical teams during deployments.
- Design and deliver training programmes for health personnel.
- Coordinate with humanitarian partners to ensure effective health interventions.
- Adapt to short‑notice deployments lasting 2‑4 months, up to 36 weeks per year.
Required profile
- Qualified general trauma surgeon with substantial clinical experience.
- Demonstrated leadership, managerial and supervisory abilities.
- Proven capacity to train medical staff in emergency contexts.
- High flexibility and willingness to work in challenging, resource‑limited environments.
