Hydrologist

About the role

Volue is seeking a Hydrologist to strengthen its Data & Forecast business. You will help build, improve and operationalise hydrological forecast models that support energy producers, traders and system operators across Europe.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and refine hydrological forecast models (inflow, snow, runoff, water balance) for short, medium and long horizons.
• Combine process‑based hydrology with machine‑learning and statistical methods to boost forecast accuracy.
• Integrate diverse data sources such as observations, reanalyses, NWP outputs, satellite products and customer data.
• Collaborate with data engineers and developers to create end‑to‑end pipelines for model training and operational forecasting.
• Evaluate model performance, identify improvement areas and visualise results for internal teams and customers.
• Support customer discussions and explain forecast behaviour.
• Stay current on operational hydrology and applied machine learning, introducing new ideas into the product.

Required profile

• MSc or PhD in hydrology, water resources, environmental physics, geosciences, meteorology or a related quantitative field (or equivalent experience).
• Hands‑on experience with hydrological or environmental data such as precipitation, snow, and inflow time series.
• Proficiency in Python programming and a focus on clean, maintainable code.
• Familiarity with machine‑learning approaches for environmental or time‑series data.
• Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
