Section Head – New Nuclear Facilities, Waste Management and Ship Mooring

About the role

The Directorate for Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety (DSA) is looking for a new head of its newly created section covering new nuclear facilities, waste management and mooring of reactor-driven ships. The section sits within the radiation safety and pollution department and reports to the directorate. The post is based in Bærum.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the section, set goals and strategy, and be responsible for budget, staff and follow-up of employees
• Administer the nuclear energy act, the pollution control act and the radiation protection act, ensuring high-quality guidance and decisions
• Follow up inspections and supervision work in the section's areas
• Contribute to digitalisation and continuous improvement at DSA
• Represent DSA in dialogue with companies and authorities and in international cooperation
• Take part in nuclear emergency preparedness and incident handling, and in the expanded directorate and department leadership groups
• Handle guidance and information work on the section's areas; travel abroad is expected

Required profile

• Masters degree
• Relevant leadership experience combined with good knowledge of public administration at ministry or directorate level
• Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance at SECRET level; candidates will be asked about their suitability and links to countries considered high-risk
• Good written and spoken Norwegian and English
• Strategic thinking, good communication and collaboration skills, and a focus on safety culture

Required skills

• Nuclear safety, radiation protection or pollution work experience is an advantage
• Experience in public administration, supervision, quality work, HSE or process improvement is an advantage
• Degree obtained outside Norway must be approved by the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Competence
