Submersible Pilot – Deep‑Diving Human‑Occupied Submersible

About the role

REV Ocean is looking for a safety‑focused, technically skilled Submersible Pilot to operate the DSV Aurelia, a Triton 7500/3 human‑occupied submersible. The role involves rotating between pilot and surface officer duties on a two‑pilot team, supporting scientific, exploration and filming missions from the vessel.

Key responsibilities

• Operate DSV Aurelia during dives, handling the manipulator arm, cameras, lighting and scientific equipment.
• Conduct pre‑ and post‑dive checks, report defects and perform preventative maintenance.
• Serve as Surface Officer for launch and recovery, surface tracking, communications and coordination with the bridge.
• Host scientists, media and guests safely, delivering clear operational guidance.
• Participate in mission planning, risk assessments, toolbox talks and emergency drills.

Required profile

• Manufacturer or class‑issued pilot certification for a submersible with depth capability ≥500 msw.
• Documented experience as pilot and surface officer on deep‑diving human‑occupied submersibles.
• SCUBA or commercial diving certification (Divemaster level or higher).
• Commercial boat handling certification – Powerboat Level 2 or higher.
• Current First Aid/CPR certification and valid offshore medical and safety certificates (BOSIET/FOET, STCW).
• Proven fault‑finding and maintenance skills across electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic and life‑support systems.

Required skills

• Submersible pilot operation and certification.
• SCUBA/commercial diving proficiency.
• Powerboat handling (Level 2+).
• Electrical/electronic and mechanical troubleshooting.
• Launch and recovery operations through a moonpool.
• Subsea tooling and manipulator operation.
