About the role

Fjord1 is looking for an experienced Maskinsjef (Chief Engineer) to operate the modern electric ferry MF Horgefjord on the Hufthamar‑Krokeide route. The position follows a 1‑week‑on, 2‑weeks‑off shift pattern, offering a balanced work‑life schedule while ensuring the vessel’s technical reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical operations to guarantee that all ship equipment complies with class and authority requirements.
• Perform maintenance of machinery and components according to the AMOS maintenance system.
• Collaborate with the captain to uphold safety systems and ISM‑code compliance, including alarm procedures.
• Archive and maintain vessel drawings and technical manuals.
• Monitor consumption of fuel, lubricating oil and fresh water.
• Maintain engine and oil logbooks in line with internal and external regulations.
• Budget, track and order spare parts and equipment within the assigned responsibility area.
• Ensure material registers are up‑to‑date and oversee cleaning and fire‑prevention measures.

Required profile

• Minimum M3 certificate and safety course as required by qualification regulations.
• Crisis and passenger handling training (company will cover gaps).
• Valid health certificate.
• Proficient written and spoken Scandinavian language skills.
• Independent, solution‑oriented, technically insightful with strong leadership qualities.
• Responsible, accurate, calm under pressure and safety‑focused.
