PhD Fellow in Subject Didactics – Sámi/Kven Focus

About the role

The Department of Education at UiT in Tromsø invites applications for a three‑year PhD fellowship in subject didactics (history, religious education or social studies) with a focus on Sámi and/or Kven topics in schools and teacher education. The position combines research training, teaching activities and contribution to a research group dedicated to Indigenous and minority education in the High North.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct original research leading to a doctoral dissertation on the integration of Sámi/Kven perspectives in subject didactics.
• Collaborate with the FAHUMNO research group and contribute to interdisciplinary projects.
• Participate in teaching and supervision of teacher‑education students.
• Disseminate findings through academic publications, conferences and public outreach.
• Utilise the completion grant for further qualification measures such as higher‑education teaching courses.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in education, humanities or a related field.
• Strong interest in Indigenous peoples, national minorities and their representation in curricula.
• Ability to specify an academic focus (history, religious education or social studies) in the application.
• Admission to the PhD programme at UiT is mandatory.

Required skills

• Research methodology in education or social sciences.
• Academic writing and presentation skills.
