PhD Fellow – Subject Didactics (Sámi & Kven Focus)

About the role

The Department of Education at UiT The Arctic University of Norway invites applications for a three‑year PhD fellowship in subject didactics (history, religious education or social studies) with a focus on Sámi and/or Kven topics in schools and teacher education. The position is linked to the research group FAHUMNO and aims to develop didactic perspectives for Indigenous and minority education.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct original research on how teachers address Sámi and Kven topics in primary and secondary education.
• Contribute to the development of subject‑didactic frameworks for relevant curricula.
• Collaborate with the FAHUMNO research group and participate in interdisciplinary projects.
• Prepare and submit a doctoral dissertation within the agreed timeframe.
• Engage with the broader academic community through conferences and publications.

Required profile

• Admission to the PhD programme at UiT is mandatory.
• Relevant master’s degree in education, didactics, humanities or social sciences.
• Strong interest in Indigenous peoples, Sámi and Kven issues, and minority education.
• Ability to start the position within a reasonable time after the offer.
