About the role

OsloMet is seeking a strategic and unifying Rector to lead the university in line with its vision of developing knowledge that solves societal challenges. The Rector will set the academic direction, strengthen OsloMet’s national and international position, and ensure responsible governance and resource management.

Key responsibilities

• Promote academic development in education, research and dissemination while ensuring quality, relevance and alignment with the university’s societal mission.
• Advance academic freedom, open discourse and research integrity.
• Position OsloMet nationally and internationally and contribute to knowledge‑based public debate.
• Develop strategic partnerships with key actors in the public and private sectors as well as within higher education.
• Lead and further develop the university’s leadership team, ensuring coherence in governance and participation from students and staff.
• Strengthen an inclusive organisational culture and a good work‑ and learning environment.
• Ensure governance, resources and infrastructure support core tasks with responsible prioritisation.
• Drive change and improvement initiatives that enhance quality, interdisciplinarity, digital maturity and sustainable development.

Required profile

• First‑hand competence and substantial experience from core activities in the university and college sector; top‑level academic credentials (professor, associate professor, researcher) are an advantage.
• Executive leadership experience in complex knowledge organisations with proven results in strategy development, change management and financial stewardship.
• Strong organisational and political understanding, with the ability and willingness to raise OsloMet’s profile nationally and internationally.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language) and English.
• Ability to navigate complex stakeholder landscapes, understand labour market needs and the political context of OsloMet.
• Motivating, clear and inclusive leadership style characterised by collaboration and participation.
• Good judgement, role awareness and strong relational skills for network building.
